Full Smile Makeovers
If you’re not happy with the appearance of your smile because you are missing teeth or have other common problems, you have many more options available to you today than you would have 20 years ago. Technology has enabled dentists like Dr. Kuipers to provide patients with replacement teeth that look extremely realistic. We encourage you to schedule a consultation at PURE Dental and Implant Center to learn more about the possibility of a complete smile makeover.
Your Personalized Evaluation for Dental Implants
Dental implants are popular with patients for several good reasons. Unlike dentures or dental bridges that provide you with replacement teeth only, you receive artificial tooth roots as well when you opt for dental implants. The implant is a titanium-based cylinder that your dentist installs to replace the roots of your missing tooth. You may need to wait several weeks to months after receiving the artificial tooth roots for them to fuse with your existing bone. This process is called osseointegration.
When you come in for your consultation and evaluation, Dr. Kuipers will take a CT scan or X-ray to determine if you are a good candidate for dental implants. Patients who have adequate bone mass to support the titanium rods are ready to receive their new implants as soon as possible. However, you are not automatically disqualified from getting dental implants if you have low bone mass. You may just need a bone graft procedure first.
What to Expect During a Bone Graft
This minor procedure involves your dentist removing a small amount of bone from another area and transferring it to where you are receiving the implant. The back of your jaw and chin area are common areas to retrieve the needed bone material. You receive a numbing anesthetic during the bone graft procedure to ensure that you remain comfortable.
After You Receive Your Implants
Once you have successfully completed the process of osseointegration, Dr. Kuipers may need to place a crown on each implant to support a set of full or partial dentures. This provides increased stability for the new dentures. You may feel like a new person after the dentures are attached to your new implants. You can smile confidently, eat almost anything you like, and care for your replacement teeth just as you do your natural teeth.
Your smile is one of the first things people notice about you, so make sure yours is something to remember.
